How to assign roles to a Facebook page?

Social media management can be, at times, a team effort. This is often the case when a company does not have enough staff and wants to entrust this responsibility to an agency or sometimes a freelancer. In such cases, certain actions such as assigning a role on a Facebook page must be done beforehand in order to allow the people in charge to do their job well. This is a question I regularly receive in the context of our partnerships for the management of our clients' Facebook advertising campaigns. How do I give third party access to a Facebook page? Facebook professional pages include a module that allows administrators to assign roles to third parties depending on the responsibility they will be assigned (publications, advertising, etc. ...).

Once you have given the administrator, moderator, or others access to the chosen person, they can then act as "your page".

Two key aspects you need to remember are:

  1. You'll need to be an admin to manage your Page's roles.
  2. There is no limit to the number of people who can play a role on a page.

Here are the steps to follow to give access to someone.

New Facebook

Give a role to a third party (agency, freelancer, employee, etc.)

You are an administrator:

  1. Go to your page and click Page Settings at  the bottom left.
  2. Click Page Roles  in the left column.
  3. Type a name or email in the box and select the person from the list that appears.
  4. Click Editor to select a role from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click Add  and enter your password to confirm.

IMPORTANT! If you're not friends with the person you're adding, they'll first need to accept your invitation  before they can start helping you manage your Page.

Remove someone who has a role

You are an administrator:

  1. Go to your page and click Page Settings at  the bottom left.
  2. Click Page Roles  in the left column.
  3. Click Edit  next to the person you want to remove, then click Remove .
  4. Click Confirm . You may need to enter your password.

Attention! You can always remove yourself from a Page, but if you're the only Admin of the Page, you'll need to add another Admin first.
