Do you have a website and are concerned about its SEO? Then you should know that the content of your website is the best way to boost your SEO. But to do so, your content must include some essential elements such as: titles, descriptions, keywords, images etc.

In this article, Oshara will show you the importance of all these elements and how to use them.

1- The title (meta title)

The title of your page often called meta title represents the name of the page. It is this name and title that is managed by search engines. Do not confuse this title with the title of your content often represented with an H1. For a perfect display we advise you to put 70 characters maximum for your meta title.e in pixel than in character. However, we can see that for a title tag is not cut by Google, it must contain about 70 characters maximum.

The meta title is the title of your page, it must be unique and specific to each page. you must avoid having the same name on two pages or more. Otherwise you will lose points in the search engines. In short, one page, one meta title.

2- The description (meta description)

The meta description, as its name suggests, is the description of your page. In other words, a small summary or overview of what is on the page. This tag is not to be neglected because it determines whether the user will click to visit your page or not. It is important to know that Internet users often take the time to read the description of your page in order to know if they can get the result of their search on your page. It is therefore essential that it is well written and as accurate as possible to push the customer to visit your page. The meta description tag is very important for your SEO, because the more people will click on your page, the more Google will find that you offer quality content and will put you forward.

Having seen above that the titles of pages must be unique, the description must also be unique. Each page must have its own description. Avoid having the description of a page on others.

3- Keywords

The keyword is a word or a group of words used by an Internet user to perform a search on a search engine. It is also the word or set of words used to characterize a text, a content etc.. Your objective is to appear on the first page when the Internet user enters a keyword. It is therefore essential to put it in your content to help search engines know that your content is about this keyword. For more impact, your keywords must be in:

  • Your meta title
  • Your meta description
  • The titles and subtitles of your content
  • Your introduction
  • Your links
  • The descriptions of your images
  • The text of your content etc.

LSI keywords

An LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keyword is a word or group of words related to or considered as a variant of a main keyword. These are synonyms of the main keyword, other related words. With LSI keywords you give more information to search engines. For example, if your article is about "Lawyer", search engines will use LSI keywords to identify if your article is about the fruit or the trade.

So please place them in your content to make it easier for search engines and visitors to understand. All this will increase the relevance of your content and therefore increase its ranking.

URLs

A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is the address of a resource (page, images, videos etc.) on the Internet. Generally, URLs are composed of 4 elements

Protocol: Protocols are a set of standards that allow any device connected to the Internet (or local network) to communicate with another device also connected. The most common protocols used to access websites are "http://www." and "https://www."
Domain: this is a unique and exclusive name that is used to identify your website on the Internet, it is the part of the URL that immediately follows the protocol, for example: https://oshara.ca
A domain is composed of three elements: the domain name, the category of the domain (.com, .org, etc.) and the identification of the country to which the website belongs (.ca, .us, .jp).

Path: Determines the location (usually on a file system) where the resource is located on the server that hosts the website or service. For example: https://oshara.ca/images/blog/photo.jpg
Resource: This is the object that the web browser will present to the user, for example: https://domain.com/images/blog/photo.jpg

Resource: This is the object that the web browser will present to the user, for example: https://domain.com/images/blog/photo.jpg

Each URL sends to one and only one resource. It must therefore be unique.

Our advice: your URLs must be short and contain the keyword or an LSI keyword related to the content of the resource in question.

4- Images

Images are often used to illustrate your text or content. They allow you to air out the text, make it more attractive and sometimes summarize your entire content. They are also very important for your SEO because since the birth of Google Image, the search for images is constantly evolving. You must therefore optimize your images to boost your SEO.

The name of the image

The best way to tell search engines (Google, Bing and others) what is on your image is the name of the image. The name of your image should contain the subject of the text it illustrates. For example, if your text is about searching on Google. You can name your image "Search-Google.jpg" and not IMG55454.jpg. If your image is named "IMG55454.jpg", you won't help the Google robot to know what the image is about. And all this will hurt its SEO.

Try not to put accents in the image names and put dashes between the words.

The alternative text (ALT tag)

The ALT tag or alternative text is the text that is displayed when the image has a display problem. Along with the name of the image, the ALT tag allows you to improve the referencing of your website since you can add additional keywords for the search engines.

Tip: All your images must have an alternative text.

The title tag

The title tag is the text that appears when you hover over an image on a website. It is the title of the image (not to be confused with the name of the image file). It does not directly influence SEO but it does provide a better user experience.

The image caption

The caption is the text displayed at the bottom of the image. The caption brings content around the image and allows the user and Google to better understand the context. It does not directly affect the natural referencing of images, but it improves the user experience. To optimize it, you can add keywords.

The image format

The format of the image plays a big role in its SEO optimization. For your images we recommend using JPEG, PNG and GIF formats.

Use the JPEG format for photos and images with multiple colors.

Use PNG format for diagrams, logos or images with transparency.

And finally, use the GIF format for animated images.

Size and weight of the image

The size of the image determines the space it will take up on the screen and its importance in relation to the text. You will have to indicate the height and width of your image if you want to customize its display.

The size and weight of your image are linked because the larger the image the more it weighs. An image that weighs too much affects the loading speed of your website.
So think about reducing the weight of your images before uploading them.

5- Structured text

A structured text is a text that allows you to easily determine the titles, subtitles and others. It improves its referencing because it is easily readable by the search engine.

To structure a text, we generally use the title tags H1, H2, H3, H4 etc. To these tags you can add bulleted lists.

These two elements (title tags and bulleted lists) allow you to break up the text and make it easier to read for Internet users and Google.

6- Share buttons

When a content generates a lot of interactions, Google considers it as a quality content. This improves its referencing. Nowadays, social networks are gold mines for generating interactions. Billions of people connect to them every day. Integrating sharing buttons on your website means making your readers ambassadors of your website. Indeed, when a visitor is interested in your content, he can easily share it with his acquaintances who have the same interests as him. It allows you to attract new people to your website. The more shares and clicks on this link, the more the search engines will consider this page as very qualitative. This will boost the SEO of your content.

Tip: Make your share buttons easy to access. Your readers will be more easily tempted to share your content.

BONUS: Practical tips from Oshara

To give your SEO a boost, analyze your website's results with Google's free tools ( Analytics and Search Console ). Identify the pages that generate the most visits to your website. Once done:

Improve these pages regularly. Optimize the page according to the keywords that link to that page.
Add Call To Action buttons to invite visitors to subscribe to your website or send them to pages that might interest them
Use a heatmap on these pages to see the behavior of your visitors and know what needs to be improved on the page to make it more attractive.
Always prioritize the pages that generate the most interest when updating your site.
